The Lane Tech Track Teams Look Forward to Their New Season
As the track and field season is approaching, the boy and girl teams are looking forward to a successful indoor and outdoor season led by head coaches Kris Roof, Tony Jones, and new coach Kelsi Frank. The season won’t kick off until mid January and the meets will take place in early February.
Last season, all relay races from the boys team went to state, propelling them further into this season. Another accomplishment last season was in the 4x400 meter relays where the boys team qualified for state. All four of the runners will be returning this year hoping to earn the same title. We are expecting Liam Jackson, Jack Burns, Nathan Polizzi, and Juan Manaog to all have a great season. An important and achievable goal for this season is to reach and rank higher in the state finals than we have in the previous years. Another goal is to ensure that our top runners stay healthy and take precautions in order to prevent injuries throughout the intense season.
The girls team has had some changes this year. Along with the new season, there will also be a new coaching staff for every event. These changes will help the track and field teams send more teams to state. Last year, 3 of the girls relay teams went to state, however, this year we are hoping to have all of our teams and more individuals qualify to compete at state level competitions. Key returners such as Nina Royston, Hillary Banks, Josephine Aladesuru, and Imani Williams will help the team achieve their goals of heading to state.
The Varsity team has won city the last two years and the Fresh/Soph team has won city the last 8 years. We are hoping to continue this streak. Our most important meets that will help our rankings state-wide are are the Downers Grove South Relays and the Charger Invitational (U of I- Champaign Urbana).
