Lane Tech’s wrestling team is looking forward to an astronomical 2019-20 season with a majority of the varsity team returning including key seniors Connell Cunningham at 160 weight class and Conor Devlin at 170 weight class. Connell placed 5th at city last year and Coach Yan is predicting a solid season from Conor, in addition to juniors Josiah Powell, Luke Miller, and a returning regional fourth-place finisher in sophomore Carlos Perez, Lane Tech’s former underclassmen of the year.
When catching up with Coach Yan, he expects to have an improved season because of the hard work and training from this past offseason. One of the main focuses of the team is consistency. Coach Yan added,”Consistency wins. We will focus on the effort and not the end result. Winning is still important but we want to develop our athletes for the long term, not just the competition in front of us.” The mindset of this team and its superb coaching staff is why we can expect a great 2019-20 season from Lane Tech’s wrestling team.
Some key games to look out for this season are against Senn, Taft, and New Trier. Coach Yan said,”I'm looking forward to the dual meet against Senn. They beat us last year for the first time and I look forward to getting back on the right track against them. Taft is our toughest competitor. They won city last year. I'm also looking forward to the dual meet against New Trier at the end of the season, since I graduated from there and coached quite a few of their kids.” Lastly, Senior night will be held in the cafeteria on Wednesday 1/22 against Glenbrook North and Elmwood Park.
