Marist Athletics Update : Monday, January 25, 2021
Marist High School is extremely excited for our region's recent transition to Tier 1 mitigations and the resumption of various levels of athletic activity. We await IHSA Board action to set season dates for all sports, for the remainder of the school year when they meet on Wednesday, January 27th.
Marist Athletics will focus on planning the resumption of practice and competition for the low - risk, winter sports: our bowling, cheer, and dance programs. Our basketball and cheer programs will soon announce tryout dates. Our high risk basketball and hockey programs are permitted to participate in intra-team scrimmages with a parental consent waiver under the current Tier 1 mitigations.
The most significant update by the IDPH for athletics involves high-risk sports in regions that have improved from Tier 1 to Phase 4. Schools within a Phase 4 Region can now conduct intra-conference and intra-region contests in high-risk sports. Moderate-risk sports competing outdoors in Phase 4 also received expanded scheduling opportunities. You can access information regarding our region’s mitigation status, corresponding levels of athletic activity, and more here: https://www.ihsa.org/Resources/COVID-19
Please remember that adhering to COVID protocols outside the scholastic setting will be crucial regarding our ability to maintain in-person learning and expanded co-curricular programs. Marist athletic protocols including masking, symptom checks, attendance for contact tracing, transportation seating charts, etc. will continue to be in place.
Finally, we will continue to adhere to spectator limits. Host schools may choose to be more restrictive in their spectator policies. We will do our best to make livestream or recorded content available to our RedHawk families and fans under these circumstances.
