Game Summary

Meridian closed out their regular season against the Springfield Lutheran Crusaders after a short lightning delay.  The Hawks were without three Senior starters so it was up to the bench players to take it to the Crusaders under the lights. This was the 2nd match against LuHi. The Hawks' tactical changes kept the Crusaders at bay and provided more scoring opportunities for the Hawks. Sophomore keeper Jay Ferguson and the Hawk defense were solid but let two goals in before the half from LuHi set pieces. LuHi came out swinging the 2nd half and the Hawks never relented even after a Meridian own goal on a LuHi corner kick. Hawks ended the night with a 0-5 loss against a team they lost 0-7 to in their first outing. Meridian ends the 2021 regular season with a record of 7-12.  The Hawks now prepare for the 2A Regionals as the #7 seed in Sub-Section B of the Bloomington Sectional and face #2 seed Glenwood-Chatham on 10/20 in Rochester @ 4:30pm.

Final score for 10/7 match:  Meridian 0 / Springfield Lutheran 5
Meridian keeper: Ferguson 14 saves

Springfield Lutheran scorers: Butcher 2, Scheidenhelm 1, Williams 1, (MHS) Grider Own Goal
Springfield Lutheran: Thomas 5 saves

Meridian record 7-12.  Next match 2A Regional Semifinal: 10/20 in Rochester vs #2 Glenwood-Chatham @ 4:30pm
