April Hutchens graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School in 2008. After high school, she attended Valdosta State University (VSU) to further her education and softball career. April completed her bachelors (2012) and masters (2013) degree in Deaf Education at Valdosta. In 2012, she was named an All-American Athlete and made the Third Team Academic Momentum Award. She was honored the All-American Scholar Athlete award in 2011 and 2012.
In her softball career at VSU, she started as a second baseman all four years only missing 5 games in her career. She acquired a career fielding percentage of .966 and a .300 estimated hitting percentage. April was named second team All-American in 2012. She made two All Gulf South Conference (GSC) teams and was named one of the top defensive players in Division II. As a team, the Valdosta Lady Blazers tallied a 207-33 record from 2009-2012. They won four consecutive Gulf South Conference Championships, two NCAA Division II South Regional Championships, and the program's first ever National Championship Title in 2012.
After her college career, she worked for the VSU Athletic Department and helped the VSU softball team. Furthermore, she worked at multiple camps hosted by VSU softball program along with a helping a 12U travel ball team. April specializes in conditioning and fundamental skills in fielding and hitting. This will be Coach Hutchens’ first year as JV head coach at Morton.
