Recent IESA Track & Field Announcements and Updated IDPH Safety Guidance
In the last few days, both the IESA and IDPH released updates that directly impact our track and field atheletes.
The IESA has decided to cancel the state track & field meet, however, any Sectional with a host may still be held. Fortunately, we are able to host the Sectional. It will be on FRIDAY, May 14 beginning at 10:00 am at Carper Field. You can read the full announcement here.
IDPH has updated its guidance to essentially match what was expected in the fall. In particular, student-athletes don't have to wear a mask when actively competing and socially distanced.
IESA TRACK & FIELD GUIDANCE:
FACIAL COVERINGS
- Student-Athletes: Athletes are not required to wear facial coverings while actively participating outdoors. However, when not actively participating outdoors, facial coverings must be worn.
- Officials: Officials may remove their face-covering in circumstances where they are socially distanced.
- Coaches and Spectators: Must wear a face covering at all times.
INDIVIDUAL RUNNING EVENTS
- All Sprint Events and Relays: Athletes may be placed in every lane.
- Distance Events (800, 1600): Multiple heats may be necessary for middle/long-distance events with a large number of runners. Another efficient way to accommodate a larger number of runners could be through the use of a double waterfall or alley start on tracks that are marked appropriately for this.
