IHSA Phase 1 Strength and Conditioning Workouts To Begin on Monday, June 22, 2020

The Unit 5 School District has given Normal West H.S. permission to begin Phase 1 of the IHSA's Return to Play plan which involves strength and conditioning programs for athletic teams beginning on Monday, June 22, 2020.  The following sports have submitted plans that will allow them to begin outdoor workouts during the week of June 22 with pre-determined groups of 10 or less:  Football, Boys Basketball, Boys Soccer, Cheerleading, and Boys/Girls Cross Country.  All athletes must register online under Summer Camps for their specific sport before they are allowed to participate.  For example, football players would register for the Summer Camp of Football - Phase 1 and Phase 2 Conditioning and Practices.  Other sports are named similarly.  Below is the link to access online registration:  https://ncwhs.8to18.com/accounts/login

We anticipate receiving permission to move into Phase 2 of the IHSA's Return to Play plan on Monday, June 29, 2020, assuming the State of Illinois moves into Phase 4 of their plan on or prior to that date.  Moving to Phase 2 of the IHSA plan will allow for groups of 50, will allow use of indoor facilities, and will allow us to resume normal practices including practicing the skills of our various sports.  Again, all athletes who did not register during Phase 1 must register online under Summer Camps for their specific sport before being allowed to participate.  Athletes do not need to register for Phase 2 if they have already registered during Phase 1 for their sports.

Under both Phase 1 and Phase 2, coaches will be conducting COVID-19 symptoms screenings for each athlete including temperature checks prior to workouts. Any athlete with a temperature above 100.4 or who has any other COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home.  Cleaning plans will be followed to disinfect facilities and equipment before, during, and after workouts.

Moving to Phase 2 will also allow us to conduct summer camps for our high school athletes.  If a sport is offering a summer camp (in addition to Phase 1 and 2 workouts), the camp will be listed under Summer Camps.  Athletes will need to register for the specific camps that they wish to attend.

At this time, we have not received permission from our school district to host youth camps, host high school tournaments, or travel to tournaments.

Please check with your respective sport coaches for additional details.
