Halftime Tryout Update
The following dates have been set for tryout MATERIAL to be distributed to dance team candidates. When IHSA releases guidelines for phase 2 of return to athletics a date will be set for IN PERSON tryouts, following IHSA, CDC, and SD308 Guidelines.
Dance team candidates should plan to log on for the following 1 hour zoom sessions to learn material:
6/25 12:30 PM - Pom Tryout Choreography
6/26 10:30 AM - Jazz Tryout Choreography
6/29 10:30 AM - Tryout Skills (this will be the skills you will be expected to demonstrate during your tryout for your judges)
All of our sessions will all be led by our graduating seniors. However, coaches will begin and end each session with a few words and be logged on to see how everything is going in regards to what our candidates may need for pacing, skill break down, etc. During this time no scores will be recorded as the actual tryout will be IN PERSON, so virtual material will not be scored.
We ask that all dance team candidates do everything in their power to log on during the designated time. If they are unable to do so for whatever reason they need to email Coach Lagger (email@example.com
) BEFORE the clinic date you will be missing to touch base. Attendance will be taken during each clinic and we ask that dancers leave their camera on (as long as they have the technology to do so) during the clinic so that coaches and instructors can make sure to meet the needs of the candidates by seeing how they are progressing through the material.
Candidates should also feel free to unmute their microphone to ask a question of the instructor - they are happy to repeat choreography/skills, slow down, do the routine again, etc. Candidates are welcome to communicate about what they may need through their microphone or by typing in the chat for the zoom call.
Tentatively, we hope to hold in person tryouts the first full week of July, should we move into phase 2 per IHSA's guidelines. When we receive details and confirmation of the beginning of phase 2 we will follow up with all candidates registered on 8to18 for halftime dance with with details on what that day will look like, expectations of candidates, guidelines for safety, etc.
A few reminders before our virtual sessions and tryouts:
1) All candidates need to be registered on 8to18 for halftime dance.
2) All candidates should review the 20-21 Pre-Audition Meeting materials to receive all information about halftime and competitive dance seasons.
3) Have a current physical for in person tryout date (TBD). **Please note: OHS is not open currently for physical drop off so dance team candidates should bring a copy with them to the in person tryout, or a copy should be emailed to Sarah Miller in the athletic office (firstname.lastname@example.org).
