IHSA SECTIONAL

HS Girls Cross Country- Elmwood Sectional

The Pleasant Plains Girl’s Cross Country team participated in the IHSA Elmwood Cross Country Sectional on Saturday, October 31th at Maple Lane Country Club in Elmwood, IL. The girls placed 11th as a team. One runner would have qualified for the 2020 IHSA Cross Country State Finals.

The Plains girls placed 11th with a team score of 280 points. Normal U-High won the Sectional, followed by Stanford-Olympia, SHG, Auburn, Knoxville and Williamsville. The top six teams from the Sectional would have advanced to the State Meet. The top ten individuals not affiliated with one of these top six teams would have also advanced to the State Meet. I am pleased to announce that for the second straight season Megan Derrick qualified of the State Meet.

I’d like to give special notice to two seniors who qualified for the Sectional Meet but were unable to participate due to COVID quarantine rules. Ani Brewer and Madalyn Buxton both qualified for this Sectional and both, I am certain, would have done very well. They both ran extremely well this season. The IHSA allowed our team to utilize alternates at the Sectional Meet, so Anna Cochran and Nikkie Shaffer were given the opportunity to compete at the Sectional. Campbell Beeler was listed as our alternate runner.

Highlights:

Megan Derrick finished in 15th place overall. Megan was 8th among the 10 individual qualifiers, which would have made her eligible for the State Cross Country Meet. Congrats Megan!
Vianne Taft finished 57th overall.
Izzy Dossett placed 78th.
Anna Cochran made the most of her opportunity to run in one final race by placing 79th and establishing a new lifetime PR at the meet running a time of 22:13.0. Congratulations Anna!
Anna Moore placed 81st overall.
Melia Johnson placed 85th.
Nikkie Shaffer came very close to her lifetime PR finishing 92nd overall.
