Varsity Girls Basketball Win Streak at 4

The Varsity Girls Basketball Team ran their season high winning streak to 4 games with a gritty, determined win against a tough minded Oak Lawn team in the North Gym Monday night. The Spartans had little answer for the Chargers offense in the game's first 8 minutes, as Stagg exploded for 19 points.  However, the Spartans stayed close as they scored 11.  In the second quarter, it was Oak Lawn making a run, outscoring the Chargers 10-8, but at the half it was still Stagg 27-OL 21.  The second half saw the Chargers build leads as high as 11 points, while the Spartans did just enough on the offensive end to keep in the game.  At the end of 3, it was the Chargers 48-40.  Oak Lawn then held the Chargers scoreless for the first 4 plus minutes of the 4th, but only managed to score 4 points themselves.  From there, it was a parade to the free throw line, led by Gail Korbitz, Maeli Sanchez, and Kelsey Dwyer, as the Chargers closed the game on an 8-2 run.  Leading all scorers on her 16th birthday was Gail Korbitz with 20 points, her 2nd straight 20 point scoring effort.  Laila Barakat chipped in with 16 points.

The Chargers now stand at 12-14 on the season, with 4 games left on the regular season schedule.
