The FFA membership consists of students enrolled in the Agricultural Education Program. The National FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agriculture Education. The purpose of the FFA is to train students in leadership, cooperation, and citizenship through a common interest in the agriculture industry. Today, agriculture is more than just farming. Students are trained in all areas of agriculture, which include agricultural mechanics, agricultural science, horticulture, agribusiness, and agricultural technology, which account for approximately 28% of all jobs in Illinois. The Sycamore FFA Chapter is one of the oldest chapters in Illinois being chartered in 1929. It is considered to be in the top 10% of all chapters in Illinois and one of the top chapters in the nation out of approximately 1000 chapters in the United States. The Sycamore FFA activities include members attending many leadership-training conferences, competing in various Career Development Events, participating in community events and activities, attending the National and State FFA Conventions, and many other activities. The Sycamore Agriculture Department and Sycamore FFA also operate a greenhouse, a seven-acre plot, an aquaculture facility, and a small animal building to give students hands-on experiences in agriculture.
